If you’re a ranch lover but keeping it dairy-free, buying ranch flavored food can be a struggle. Say goodbye to that struggle with this dairy-free ranch seasoning mix.

Whip up a batch of this vegan ranch seasoning mix and you can make anything taste like ranch. Try air fryer potatoes, chickpeas, dip or salad dressing.

I keep my seasoning mixes salt free so that I can season each individual dish. This helps because sometimes I use a liquid stock, some times a stock cube, and those ingredients have sodium amounts that can vary. Keep that in mind when using this seasoning mix.

Ingredients

This is a brief overview of the ingredients used in this recipe followed by substitution ideas. Read the recipe card for measurements.

Herbs in bowls labeled onion powder, dill, garlic powder, chives, parsley, and nutritional yeast.
  • dried herbs and spices: you’ll need dried parsley flakes, chives, dill, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • nutritional yeast: this ingredient is optional but I like to add it for more umami flavor. Most ranch seasoning packets sold in stores container buttermilk powder for flavor. A good substitute is nutritional yeast which also contains vitamin B12, important for people who don’t consume animal products.

Substitutions

  • nutritional yeast: feel free to omit this if you don’t keep it on hand or don’t want to buy it. While I wouldn’t store grated Parmesan cheese with this seasoning mix, you can add it to dishes along with this mix, for example when baking French fries or potatoes.

Benefits of nutritional yeast

1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast provides 2.4 mcg Vitamin B12 or 100% of the recommended daily value!

Tips for making homemade seasoning mix

  • For easier meal prep you can make a big batch of this spice mix. Double or triple it and store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
  • Skip the nutritional yeast if you have a hard time finding it. Check the health food aisle at your local grocery store. You can also buy nutritional yeast on amazon and at bulk food stores.
  • Skip adding salt to your homemade seasoning mixes so you can season as each dish needs. This is handy when you’re using other different products – for example stocks and broths with different amount of salt.

What to use ranch seasoning mix for

You can use this seasoning mix as you would another mix. Try it on air fryer ranch potatoes, crispy ranch chickpeas, or on roasted vegetables.

To make a dip add 2 tablespoons of the seasoning mix to 3/4 cups mixed vegan yogurt and vegan mayo. Add a splash of lemon juice and season with salt and pepper. Add plant milk to thin it to a dressing consistency.

Storage

Store the mix in an airtight container with a lid. I use a small glass jar with a lid and label it because I usually make a few different ones at the same time. When stored in a cool, dry place seasoning mixes can last about a year.
