Why make salad dressing at home?
- You can customize it to your liking: spicier, tangier, creamier
- More options! You can have exactly what you want, even if your local grocery store doesn’t carry it
- You can control the ingredients and the quality
- Make a dressing that fits your diet, whether you eat without restrictions or follow a plant-based, vegetarian, or vegan diet.
- You’ll benefit more from fresh ingredients like fresh herbs which give more flavor.
Vinaigrette Ratio
My favorite ratio for making vinaigrette dressings is 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. I love ratios because whether you scale it up or down, it works every time.
So for a basic vinaigrette dressing you’ll need:
- 3 parts oil
- 1 part vinegar
- mustard to help the mixture emulsify
- other flavors as desired (think spices, herbs, shallots, garlic, etc.)
- optional sweetener for balance
Simply add all of the ingredients to a small jar and shake. Done!
